RMNP Bull Elk: G5 – Split 6 – Atlas

G5 – Split 6 – (Atlas ?)

When I asked if this distinctive bull has a name, I was given these three different names, but G5 seems to be most common. Seasoned Rocky Mountain National Park photographers told me he was the largest of the current herd bulls. Another bull, KJ gets a lot of attention, though I don’t think his antlers are as large this year as last.
These photos are selected from photos taken over two mornings. A few days earlier, I got to see G5, but he did a banner job of staying in the shadows of a morning of high contrast lighting. (I didn’t like any of those images.) I counted 35 cows and calves in his harem on one of my mornings with him.

I plan on visiting RMNP quite a few more times during the rut season, and if I am lucky, hope to add photos to my gallery of this big fellow!
