Looking Up in Leadville

Art & Craftsmanship on Leadville’s Main Street

Evidence of Leadville’s rich and historic past can be seen by simply “looking up”.  Highly detailed victorian architecture remains on many of the historic buildings along Harrison Avenue. 
Gold was discovered in the area in 1860,
followed by silver in 1877. Lead and other ores were also mined, making it attractive to names like Tabor, Carnegie, and Guggenheim.

At 10,158 feet elevation, Leadville is one of the highest cities in the United States. I overheard the lady at the Visitor’s Center say that Leadville was being considered at the state capitol, but lost out to Denver at roughly half the elevation  

There’s plenty to see at eyel level in Leadville, but I chose to point my camera UP to isolate some of th spectacular architectural details. Many of the buildings seen in the post card below remain for today’s viewing and photography..
