First Snow

Published October 30, 2023

Taken at Rocky Mountain National Park, Big Thompson Canyon, & along the Front Range.

Colorado’s upper elevations will keep most of the new snowfall for the winter. It is short lived in October and most of November along the Front Range.

Photos on this page were taken over two mornings. The first was overcast, with a few lingering flakes. This morning, I woke to 5℉. I pulled out my heavier winter jacket. By noon, I was back to my mid-weight jacket.

It has taken numerous trips to finally be able to photograph a large bighorn ram, but my persistence finally paid off.

New snow, even as little as a 4″-5″,  changes the face of the area landscape tremendously. There is a long winter ahead of me, but it was nice to get out for a few photos of the seasonal transitions.
