Bulls of Rocky Mountain National Park: 5-23-23

Spring in RMNP…

It looks and feels a lot like summer at the base of Colorado’s Front Range. However, in upper elevations like the meadows of Rocky Mountain National Park, spring is just beginning. Elk are feasting on the fresh green grass. I found several groups of bulls in the Horseshoe Bend area and cow, calf, and bull mixes in the Morraine Park area.

As you can see, a few of the bulls have impressive antler growth already! Most elk still have shaggy coats, while a few have predominantly new summer fur.

The Big Thompson River is flowing fast as it cascades down the canyon towards Loveland. I found a few along the river.

Note: Timed entry into RMNP begins again for the Memorial Day Weekend.
