Maui’s Annual Front Street Event in Downtown Lahaina
Described as the biggest and most celebrated holiday in Maui, Halloween on Front Street was a “must see” event. Darla and I, along with two of our Jackson Hole friends, went there in 2014 for a boisterous evening.
Unfortunately, recent fires destroyed Front Street, the harbor, and most of the region. Photos and videos from Lahaina are heart stopping. I made a post about Halloween in Maui on my old site at Best of the Tetons, where it has remained mostly forgotten for the past eight years. Today, I dug out one of my ragged Maui t-shirts to wear as I re-post these photos on Mike Jackson Photography.

I can only hope and pray the people shown on this page are all safe and sound. It is a sad time for all of us⏤especially for anyone that has ever visited the island paradise and the historic streets of Lahaina.
Back in 2014, I carried my camera and an off-camera strobe to try to capture some of the event and the festive street going participants. They all said yes when I asked if I could take their photos and I even had people coming to me to ask if I would take their picture. It was immediately apparent that residents of the island dreamed up and worked on their costumes well in advance of the street party. It was such a happy time in contrast to what we see now on the news and Internet. We wish them well!
