Lake Hiawatha is one of many lakes spattered around the Red Feather Lakes region of North Central Colorado. The rugged rock outcroppings and calm water of Lake Hiawatha provide a spectacular backdrop for the mountain town’s 4th of July fireworks display. Darla and I made the 60 mile drive to Red Feather Lakes to experience the annual festivities for ourselves. At 8000 ft. elevation, days and nights are cooler than on the high plains below. The clear lakes, cooler temperatures, and ample outdoor activities make the area a popular getaway during the hot summer months.
